Here’s our 3 tier perspective on new AI adoption for businesses.
1) Productivity AI- This is enabling your employees to optimize their day-to-day work. It’s about responsible deployment and management of AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Co-Pilot, as well as the enormous array of job/task-specific AI tools emerging. The AI is general, as opposed to company-specific.
2) Operational- These are the organization-wide applications. Things like ERP, HR, accounting, CRMs, etc. The AI may be general, but the training and deployment bridges into company-specific training and data.
3) External- This is a broad category, but it’s defined by “touching” external stakeholders. It could be simple chatbots for customer service or prospects, or more complex AI, such as recommendation engines and invoicing. Other external entities could include supply-chain management, regulator or shareholder support.
Within the above, I believe productivity is least risk and “crawl” stage. Operational and External AI move into higher risk and complexity. “Walk” and “Run” stages.
